Asahi-class
Asahi-movements
are divided into five sections: relaxation, neck and shoulder exercises, back
exercises, legs and balance exercises and finally easing the breath and calming
the mind.
The
duration of the class is flexible and may vary from 10 to 60 minutes, depending
on the target group and the occasion. For example an office break exercise may
take just 10 minutes, consisting of repetitions of only one or two movements.
Neck and shoulder exercises are ideal for these, for example.
Each Asahi
movement is adjustable to the strength and mobility of the exerciser, including
the intensity of the movement.
Asahi-class
is a continual, flowing entity, and once the movements have been learned, the
whole class can be instructed as one, continuous movement. In the beginning the
movements are taught separately and the exact way of performing them is
emphasized. Since the movements are
simple, the continuous flow from one movement to the following is quickly
achieved.
Asahi movements
The Asahi
basic form consists of about 20 movements, designed to effect on different
parts of the body. At the beginning of the class the linking of movement and
breathing is learned. After that the body’s vertical erect alignment is found,
followed by various relaxation exercises. Neck and shoulder exercises come
next, aiming to open up and slightly stretch neck and shoulders. By rotating
the shoulders the circulation recovers and the joints loosen. There are several
slow repetitions.
The third section
is the back exercises. The back is casually bent into different directions. In
this section also the legs get some exercise. The fourth section deals more
with legs and balance.
